  37. INSTALLATION

  39. Windows 95:
  40. Copy the file "l2winfix.exe" into the Lords2 directory on your hard
  41. drive (by default the path is "C:\Sierra\Lords2").
  42.  
  43. Go to the Start menu, select your Programs group, and select MS-DOS
  44. Prompt.  Change to your Lords2 directory (usually by typing
  45. "cd\Sierra\Lords2") and type "l2winfix".  When asked if you want to
  46. overwrite the files type "Y" for yes.  Close the DOS Prompt window
  47. when done by typing "exit". Start Lords of the Realm2 as you
  48. normally do.

  52. Copy the file l2dosfix.exe into the Lords2 directory on your hard
  53. drive (by default the path is C:\Lords2).

  55. From the MS DOS prompt, change to the Lords 2 directory (usually by

  65. WHAT THIS PATCH FIXES
  66.  
  67. Together with the rest of the Lords of the Realm 2 team, I sincerely
  68. apologize for these problems. I know from experience how frustrating
  69. it is to buy a game and have a series of problems which get in the
  70. way of your enjoyment of the game. We have been working hard to
  71. track down and fix these issues, and to test our fixes to ensure
  72. they don't create other issues, before getting them to you. I hope
  73. you enjoy Lords 2 properly as a result.

  79. 1.  Internet Explorer vanishes/won't work after installing Lords of
  80. the Realm 2
  81.  
  82. Certain versions of our newest products (NASCAR Racing 2, Lords of
  83. the Realm II, Phantasmagoria 2, and the Screamin' 3D bundle) may
  84. result in conflicts with the Windows '95 version of Microsoft
  85. Internet Explorer v3.01 or higher).  Symptoms of the conflict will
  86. result in a blank browser window upon initial launch or an
  87. "IwEngInit failed" error.  If you are experiencing the above problems,
  88. simply run the Sierra AutoUpdate Remain connected to your internet
  89. provider, minimize the current screen, click on Start, Programs,
  90. Sierra, Sierra AutoUpdate).  The autoupdate feature will automatically
  91. connect you to the Sierra website and apply the necessary fix to
  92. resolve the problem.  (Note: Reinstalling Microsoft Internet Explorer
  93. (v3.01) is also an option)  Sierra apologizes for any inconvenience
  94. this problem may have caused.  We appreciate your  continued business
  95. and support.

  100. 2.  --  Problems with Direct X 3:
  101.  
  102. Please note that most users are not experiencing any of these problems,
  103. and that users that are experiencing some problems seem to be
  104. experiencing justone of the following problems:
  105.  
  106. (A): Game Crashes when trying to play the movie at the end of a
  107. battle This happens on PCs where the video card drivers supplied
  108. with Direct X 3 are not compatible with your videocard. Contact your
  109. videocard manufacturer for an up-to-date driver, which should fix this
  110. issue.
  111.  
  112. Turning Full Screen Mode OFF (which you can do from the Options Menu
  113. in the game) fixes this problem.
  114.  
  115. (B): Game crashes when the user tries to build a castle
  116. This happens on PCs where the video card drivers supplied with
  117. Direct X 3 are not compatible with your videocard. Contact your
  118. videocard manufacturer for an up-to-date driver, which should fix
  119. this issue.
  120.

  124. (C): No sound plays at all
  125. This problem arises where your soundcard driver is not compatible with
  126. Direct Sound. Please contact your soundcard manufacturer for an

  131. (D): Sound plays but there is a constant clicking noise in the 
  132. background
  133.  
  134. This is a problem experienced by a very few users; it appears to
  135. happen on some Sound Blaster clones where older soundcard drivers
  136. are in use. Replacing the drivers used with up-to-date ones fixes
  137. this issue. Your soundcard manufacturer should be able to supply you
  138. with up-to-date drivers for your card.

  141. (E):I am having sound problems when trying to run Lords 2   
  142.  
  143. Impressions Software has found that, due to an error in our internal
  144. production process, we shipped a number of defective DirectX version
  145. 3 files with the initial shipment of Lords of the Realm II.  Although
  146. we cannot confirm if any of our customers have been affected by our
  147. mistake, correcting these errors may fix problems some people have
  148. experienced running Lords II under Windows 95.
  149.  
  150. Specifically, it appears that we shipped defective copies of the
  151. followingDX3 files:
  152.  
  153. D3DRGBF.DLL
  154. SBAWE.VXD
  155. VB102F.COM
  156. ATI3D.DLL
  157. D3D.UC
  158. SUPERVGA.DRV
  159.  
  160. If you are having problems running DirectX version 3 applications
  161. after  installing Lords II, we recommend that you re-install Direct X
  162. version 3from a correct copy of DirectX version 3, such as can be obtained
  163. from our web site.
  164.  
  165. If for example you find that after installing Lords II under 
  166. Windows 95 you hear no sound during game play and especially if other
  167. DirectX  version 3 games lose their sound, we recommend that you
  168. re-install DirectX  version 3 from a source other than your Lords II CD.
  169.  
  170. You can obtain a correct copy of DirectX version 3 from
  171. http://www.sierra.com/Archive/Demos
  172. The name of the file is DXEXTRACT.EXE
  173.  
  174. 3.  After installing Lords 2, game won't run and says it needs
  175. "Dplay.dll"
  176.  
  177. This message comes up if you have NOT in fact installed the new
  178. version of Direct X that Lords 2 uses; the installation interface
  179. for Direct X in this circumstance is easily mis-understood; a panel
  180. will appear during the installation process, saying that the Setup
  181. program has found a previous version of Direct X. The program asks
  182. if you want to install the new version needed by Lords 2 and allows
  183. you to press either "OK" or "Re-Install." Normally, pressing "OK"
  184. moves you forward in an installation, and so some users are naturally
  185. hitting "OK" - although in fact this does NOT install the new version
  186. of Direct X.
  187.  
  188. SOLUTION: Reinstall Direct X, using the "Install Direct X" icon in
  189. your Sierra directory. Make sure you hit the "Reinstall DirectX" Button.
  190.  
  191.  
  192. 4.  I am having problems when Playing Lords 2 In DOS.
  193. The following four bugs have all been fixed in this Patch (V1.03)
  194. In the "Play Now" Campaign, every other map seems to be missed out.
  195. The battles crash sometimes when playing with Music OFF
  196. The map of Europe crashes with some settings from the Custom Game screen
  197. The arrow buttons don't accelerate, for example  when I'm trying to buy
  198. or sell something
